Happy Father's Day - 2016

"The righteous man walks in his integrity:  his children are blessed after him"
~Proverbs 20: 7

++Thank you, God, for Neil, the father of our children.
Please bless him always!++

++Thank you, God, for all other dads in my life, especially my own dad, my father-in-law, and my brothers-in-law.
Please bless them always!++

"Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him."

~Psalm 103: 13

The Badlands

The Badlands

One of the first pull offs (at least from where we entered) was an area where you could get out and be at the top of the cliffs.  And, oh boy, was it beautiful!  Amazing!  Breathtaking!  Like nothing you've ever seen before!  But... this momma kept her ducklings close to her (yes, even the big 'uns) because a little slip could sending you falling down those cliffs and we don't want to talk about what the ending would be.  But, man, were the views absolutely gorgeous!!

Our favorite pull off was an area where we entered at the bottom of the rocks and everyone could get out and run around, walk around, CLIMB around (this was the best part for our 6 big kids!). I had little Yoda in the ergo and walked around holding Miss Rose's hand.  We had a great time watching, snapping pictures, and trying to keep up with the climbers from down below.

My rule was that if you climbed up, you surely better have a way of getting down.  And, this actually proved to be a tough challenge for many.  Especially little Pookey.  Here's a look at his rescue from his Aunt Laura and Uncle Jeremy, the heroes of the day!!

Mommy/Baby selfies...

Don't forget to keep going through the Badlands loop!  You'll not want to miss these little cuties popping out of their burrows....

What an awesome time we had in the Badlands.  Definitely a favorite from our vacation Way Out West!!!

A Visit to the Corn Palace

The Corn Palace

This was one of those "short but sweet" visits on our vacation.  We went here on day one of our driving and spent a little over an hour here before heading back to the hotel to swim.  We were warned already by my sister (who had been there before) that it was cheesy, and I can 100% agree that it is.  But, I'm still glad we went.  Sometimes those cheesy things are the things kid remember and love.

All the kids ran through the corn maze...

Playing in the corn was loads of fun...

The art, made from ears of corn, was SO cool.  The front of the building (first picture) was decorated in a ROCK theme this year....

Be prepared for the attractions out west - you will visit a museum/rock/statue/building/monument and then there's the infamous trip to the gift shop!  We were prepared and didn't let the kids buy buy buy and burn a hole in our wallets.  One thing our kids always look forward to, and we've been doing this for quite some time now, is buying a magnet from every place we visit/vacation.  So, it's always known we WILL go through the gift shop, find and buy a magnet, and that very well may be the only thing we buy.  And, that's ok.  And, what's really neat is to see all our magnets together on our fridge downstairs and all the places we have visited throughout the years!!  A great tradition to start and something small/simple to buy in those zillions of giftshops you'll be going through anyways!

The Corn Palace was a bit CORNY but a memory we won't forget.

And, then ending our night with cousins splashing and enjoying the pool couldn't have been more perfect!!

Have you ever been to the Corn Palace?
What did you think?
Pretty CORNY, eh?

Way Out WEST Summer Vacation 2016 {{extended family style}}

We just got home from a wonderful vacation, way out WEST - the ten of us (Neil and I and our 8 young'uns), my parents, my sisters, their hubbies and all the kiddos.  The crew alone was huge!! And, in all honesty, it was the company that made the vacation a riot!  I love my family SO very much!  We are all so blessed to have each other, that's for sure!

We started planning last year, because our trip included multiple hotel stays, three cabin stays (in three different states) and multiple destinations.  So, it took a lot of planning and coordination.  But, with the four of us girls and my mom, and our hubby's input, things went very smooth!

And, to top off the big vacation, we had two sets of matching shirts, so we wouldn't lose each other and would easy to spot from a distance.  It was a lot of fun - even other travelers noticed our shirts, wanted to read them, and noticed us from day-to-day.  The shirts alone were the best souvenir and I'm sure will be worn and kept for a long time!!

**Faces shirts**
These shirts were SO much fun to make using the Classroom Faces website!!  Each kid had a simple template (an oval) to decorate their own little face.  They also wrote their name at the bottom.  Then we mailed in the completed faces and shirts were mailed back to us within two weeks.  Super fast!  Great price!  And an adorable personalized shirt!!

**Word Cloud shirts**
We made these shirts using this word cloud website, in which we entered all the places we were hoping to go to.  We downloaded the word cloud and this image went on the back of the shirt.  And, then we included a simple logo on the front to mark the year/family vacation.  We had a great company that printed them for us (the same company that made the shirts for CSJ boys camp - they offer great bulk discounts!).  Each family chose a different color.  We were the blue family!

OUR DESTINATIONS...
Links will be added throughout the next couple weeks as I have time to blog/share pictures on them.  You'll notice from the word cloud shirt (above) that we didn't make it to everything on the list.  We made some last minute decisions and deleted and added in a few destinations.  (For example, when we were in Yellowstone, we heard that the Tetons were just a glorified version of Yellowstone, and you wouldn't really see anything different.  Because it would have been a 2-3 hour drive just to get there, we decided to pass and spend another day in Yellowstone.  SO glad we did!)

OUR CABINS...

Custer, SD
We rented two cabins that were right next to each other to host our group of 28 people.  They were fairly simple in decor, but were clean and had everything we need.  The hot tub on the deck was a huge hit!  The 20 minute gravel drive to go anywhere was not very fun though.  Our cars were all filthy too.  Other than that, it was great!

Island Park, ID
We stayed here during the Yellowstone portion of the trip.  Great cabin and would definitely recommend it!  Three floors.  Lots of beds and the decor is just beautiful!  The upstairs bathroom was so cool!

West Yellowstone, MT
This is where two of my sisters/their families and my parents stayed during the Yellowstone portion of our trip.  Our other sister/her family weren't planning on continuing on for the second portion of the vacation.  And, we decided last minute to jump aboard continuing on to Yellowstone, but are very glad we did!  So, thankfully, we scrambled and were able to find the above cabin for us, because this cabin (which had already been reserved a while) wasn't big enough for us to stay in too.

And, the hotels we stayed at to and from South Dakota and Yellowstone and back home again varied.  We prefer Hampton Inn and Suites, because they are more spacious, generally nice and clean, and were kind enough to allow us to squeeze into one room.  My family stayed at other hotels, because they could fit into the standard double queen rooms.

My Sunday Best {{volume 2}}

Early yesterday evening, we got back from a wonderful family trip out west.  Not only did the ten of us go, but my parents, my sisters, their husbands and all the cousins all went too.  It was a large crew and a great trip!  A ...l...o...n...g...  and tiring one because of all the driving, but nonetheless AMAZING!!

Last weekend, we went to church in Custer, SD at St John the Baptist Catholic Church.  Didn't get a picture of us after church, but we were "naughty" and wore these orange t-shirts and shorts/capris, no skirts/polo's.  It was called survival-mode of vacationing.  We went to Mass on vacation and I think that is what matters.  All the grandkids, plus myself and my parents had these same shirts (made through Classroom Faces).  So, here's what we wore that day to Mass and also wore to Mount Rushmore that evening....

Here is today's picture of myself and our Young crew.  As you can tell, Little Yoda was just a tad wiggly for Fone.  He wanted to slide and run and play instead.  Silly guy!  Can't blame him one bit!!

And, as the woman did, who washed Jesus' feet with her tears, may we all show love through our actions to Our Lord and to one another.  Our actions totally speak louder than our words!!

"Her many sins have been forgiven; hence, she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.”
~Luke 7: 47
